A new mixed use development on Tawa Street, Mount Maunganui, was designed with an elaborate artwork facade to capture the attention of those on the outside, whilst increasing comfort for those inside.
The intent called for an elaborate and eye-catching screen on the Tawa Street elevation to create movement and interest in the building. Behind the facade, occupants were to benefit from the shading provided whilst still enjoying natural daylight.
Utilising custom dapple perforations, the panels shimmer in the light, changing colour and hue as the sun moves position in the sky. From a stationary position the effect of movement is achieved, a process which is accelerated if you walk from one end of the elevation to the other. The dappled light shining through the facade illuminates the inside, pulling through shades of blue and mixed with sunlight for a kaleidoscopic glimpse of the day outside.
